Classic knobby-kneed tree of southern swamps and one of our few deciduous (leaf-dropping) evergreens, hence the name. Fine-textured foliage delicate green in spring, and bronze in fall. Young trees pyramidal; older columnar. Slow-growing and long-lived, adaptable to permanently wet soils to urban sites. Handsome and tough trees frequently planted as an ornamental. 50-70' tall with graceful, horizontal branches.
